A fierce competitor with a drive to succeed, young pole vaulters all across the United States knew that Stokke was one to watch.There was almost no-one her age that could beat her, and she was still only at the start of her career. A decade ago, her life was plagued with unnecessary, unwarranted pictures that were taken without her consent, and her life was changed forever.She was thrust into a very different world, and her talent was overshadowed. By 2004, and at just 15-years of age, she managed to win the U.S. title and set an incredible record with a pole vault that was over 12 and a half feet!While in her freshman year at high school, Allison Stokke’s passion for the sport only grew, and she was soon setting even more records – especially for her age! They turned her rise in popularity into a news story that focused on the dangers of talking about a young girl’s appearance.They could see that the pole vaulter was incredibly talented at what she did, yet no-one was talking about her sporting prowess. Allison’s mother has often spoken out about this experience, stating how it was a major life lesson for Allison, who had to grow up incredibly fast, but not give up on her career because of a silly photograph.It has now been a decade since the photograph first went viral, but Allison Stokke has maintained that the whole situations still affects her on an emotional and mental level.While she was at college, she even wrote an essay about the deep emotional trauma for one of her Sociology classes. However, after a series of disappointments in the last few years, she gave up competing nationally in 2017.Like it or not, the publicity Allison received from that photo did great things for pole vaulting.

However, Stokke admitted that the attention had affected her mentally after she described the whole thing as terrifying and completely against her own will. Allison Stokke, the defending California state champion, was unable to compete for the rest of the season.The record-breaking pole vaulter said she was incredibly upset, because she was aiming to win another state championship. Her life had been turned upside-down.Although her life had changed over the course of a few months, Allison Stokke was ultimately upset that her photographs and her looks had taken over her talent.Her pole vaulting skills had been completely overshadowed by these websites and blogs that remarked on her appearance – all of her hard work had been for nothing.
