I enjoyed seeing the first book come to life even though some things were changed. Each character seems to have his or her own special power, and has to fight the battle of good versus evil at some point. The book on speed and a touch of narrative freedom.

When I realized half the cast was from the UK, I got more respect, because their accents were more proper than the American cast, for whatever reason. My sister made me watch it the first time and I really didn't want to, but by the end I was in love with it and have since watched it more times than I can count. The effects are what you would expect from this genre of film and it is reasonably watchable. It makes you wonder if the directors and producers actually read the books they are basing the films on. Lena reveals to her new boyfriend that she is a witch, and that on her sixteenth birthday she will be claimed by either the forces of light or of darkness. Easy to watch.

The characters, while based upon the books, were loosely adapted from those characters and allowed minimal depth.
Light movie with decent special effects. I am sorry, but it was a film adaptation of A BOOK, and the only reason to do that is because the books have a large enough following to warrant the expense of a film. Especially the actress who played Lena.
